Debra Leong
RYT, KYT
After a history of epilepsy as a teenager and being diagnosed with an
incurable kidney disease at the age of 21, Debra decided to settle on a
lifestyle conducive to better health and well-being. In 1996, she
discovered yoga and has been studying ever since.
“Yoga, above all, is designed to facilitate healing.”
Debra teaches Kripalu, Vinyasa, and Hatha Yoga in the Mercer County area.
She has created a yoga program for breast cancer survivors, which she has
taught at the Breast Cancer Resource Center in Princeton, and was
featured on Princeton's TV30, Spanda Yoga. As a caregiver for her
husband, a 3-time survivor of an aggressive blood cancer, Debra found
that yoga enabled her to cope with the uncertainties and stresses forced
upon them during his different cancer therapies.
Debra is an experienced registered yoga teacher (E-RYT) with the
Yoga Alliance and is registered as a Kripalu Yoga instructor through the
Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association (KYTA). She has completed additional
teacher trainings in both Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga with Shiva Rea, Sarah
Powers, and Paul Grilley.
She continues to practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga daily, under the guidance
of her teacher, Donna Feiner. She also studies Ashtanga Yoga with master
teachers such as Manju Jois, David Swenson, David Williams, and
Danny Paradise as often as possible.
Her classes encourage students to be guided from within and to practice
with compassion and self-awareness. Debra's love for yoga is reflected
in her joy for teaching.
