Cathy Watkins

Cathy began her yoga journey four years ago when a severe lower back injury ‘encouraged’ her to seek alternative approaches to healing.  Coming from a background in competitive volleyball and gymnastics, she was initially allured by the physical challenge of the asanas and the promise, not only of becoming pain-free, but of building increased strength and flexibility.  As she delved more deeply into the practice, it was a love of the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of the practice which kept her coming back to the mat.

Cathy’s classes combine flowing movement with an emphasis on good alignment that allows students to have a safe yet challenging class.  She completed a 500-hour Yoga Teacher Certification in May 2006 with Tracey Ulshafer at One Yoga Studio in East Windsor, and she is currently finishing up her teaching hours to receive certification from the Yoga Alliance.  In addition to working with Tracey, Cathy has studied yoga locally with Nancy Sheehan at the Princeton Ballet, Susan Sprecher at Holsome yoga in Princeton, Debra Leung and Leslie Hadley, both at One Yoga.  She is very grateful for their guidance and generosity of spirit.

Cathy is a painter and sculptor who received her B.A. in Art from Yale University in 1986.  She lives with her husband and two children at the Peddie School in Hightstown where she has taught studio art courses for seventeen years and now also leads classes in yoga for the students and faculty.
